Why Social Media and Web Design Share the Same Secret: The Human Side of the Equation …
Story: People are interested in more than the finished product. They also want to know who created it, what inspired it, and why it matters. The same applies to a business. Your website and social media presence should communicate not only what you do, but also something about the people behind your work.
Technology provides the means of communication, but people give that communication its meaning.
Your Website and Social Media: Two Sides of the Same Coin
A business website remains an important foundation for an online presence. It gives you a place to explain your services, share information, publish articles, and help potential customers understand what you can offer.
Social media extends that presence beyond your website.
Platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube provide different ways to share information, publish updates, present visual content, and interact with an audience.
The important thing is not to be everywhere simply for the sake of it. It is to choose the platforms that make sense for your business and use them purposefully.
For example, a small business might use Facebook to share updates and connect with its community, while X can provide a channel for short announcements, useful observations, and links to new content.
YouTube offers another opportunity: the ability to demonstrate, explain, and teach.
Why YouTube Matters
Video can communicate ideas that are difficult to convey through text alone. A demonstration can show someone how a website works, while a tutorial can guide a business owner through a particular task.
For WP Solutions, YouTube will be an opportunity to explore practical subjects involving WordPress, AI, and website development. It can also help business owners understand the technology they use rather than relying on someone else for every change or update.
My goal is not simply to promote services. It is to help people understand what is possible and become more confident using the tools available to them.
Bringing Everything Together
Think of your website as your digital home base and your social media accounts as additional channels through which people can discover and interact with your business.
Each channel has a role to play, but they should work together.
A video published on YouTube might introduce a topic that is explored in greater detail on your website. A Facebook post could direct people to a new article. A short announcement on X could draw attention to a useful tutorial.
In this way, your website and social media accounts become parts of a connected online presence rather than a collection of unrelated destinations.
From Web Instruction to WP Solutions
My own journey in web design and instruction has evolved over time.
When I launched ARC Web Instruction, I briefly considered teaching web design to younger students. Programmes such as MasterChef Junior helped illustrate how much young people can accomplish when given the opportunity to develop their abilities and share their work.
However, my professional background has largely involved teaching, supporting, and collaborating with adult learners and professionals. I see particular value in helping small-business owners and entrepreneurs understand the technology they need to operate and grow their businesses.
That perspective has helped shape the direction of WP Solutions.
Rather than treating website development as an isolated technical service, I want to explore how WordPress, AI, and YouTube can work together to help business owners establish and maintain an effective online presence.
My approach combines technical assistance with practical instruction. Some clients may need a website built or customised for them. Others may want help resolving a technical problem, integrating an AI tool, or learning how to manage their own website more confidently.
The objective is to find solutions that suit the individual business rather than expecting every client to follow the same path.
My websites serve distinct purposes within this broader direction:
-
WP Solutions — wpsolutions.ca: My business site, focusing on WordPress development, troubleshooting, AI integration, and practical digital solutions for small businesses.
-
Personal Portfolio — arcolq.com: A collection of my previous design projects, technical work, and creative interests.
-
ARC Web Instruction — arc-webinstr.com: An educational resource that can continue to develop around instruction for adult learners.
Each has its own purpose, but WP Solutions is where my current business direction comes together.
Building an Online Presence That Works for You
Establishing a website is an important step, but it need not be the end of the process.
A business can continue developing its online presence by publishing useful information, sharing knowledge, creating videos, and engaging with its audience. The challenge is to choose activities that provide genuine value without making technology another burden to manage.
This is where WordPress, AI, and YouTube can complement one another.
WordPress provides a flexible foundation for your website. AI tools can assist with research, content development, coding, and other tasks. YouTube can help you demonstrate ideas, share instruction, and reach people who prefer learning through video.
Used thoughtfully, these technologies can help business owners work more efficiently while retaining control over their own online presence.
At WP Solutions, I want to help make that possible—whether through website development, technical troubleshooting, or practical guidance that enables you to do more for yourself.
Technology should support your business, not overshadow the people who make it what it is.
I’ll also be developing WP Solutions’ presence on YouTube, Facebook, and X, creating additional opportunities to share ideas, demonstrate solutions, and connect with business owners.
I invite you to explore wpsolutions.ca and follow along as the site and its associated channels develop.
Let’s put the human side of technology to work for your business!
P.S. If you’ve noticed the occasional culinary reference in my notes—such as “raspberry pearls”—you can thank my voice recorder picking up background audio while I was watching MasterChef!
